Ortho-K FAQ's

Ortho-K FAQ's

If you're in the Frisco area and looking for myopia control, Today's Vision can help. We offer options such as ortho-k and provide the opportunity to work with an optometrist who can address vision problems while finding ways to improve your quality of life. Understanding how ortho-k works could help you decide if it's the right option for your vision correction needs.

How Safe Is Ortho-k?

Ortho-k involves wearing RGP (rigid gas-permeable) contact lenses that are designed for overnight use. To provide you with clearer vision in the morning, these lenses gently reshape the cornea while you sleep. You'll take them out when you get up in the morning rather than wearing them during the day. When used correctly, and with proper eye hygiene and care, they offer a very safe option for the treatment of myopia and other vision problems.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Ortho-k?

Patients with healthy eyes and a mild to moderate degree of myopia may be good candidates for ortho-k. Working with an optometrist can help you find out whether this is the right kind of treatment for you and determine if there are any risks or concerns that are specific to your eyes.

What Kind of Exam Does Ortho-k Require?

Ortho-k calls for the same type of exam that you would undergo before using other kinds of contact lenses. The goal is to make sure your eyes are healthy and that the prescribed treatment is going to give you the best chance of achieving adequate vision correction. It can take a few days for ortho-k to provide the full level of vision correction that it offers. You need to wear the lenses every night to prevent your vision from going back to where it was before treatment.
